Walter Henning (St. Anthony's, South Huntington, NY) broke his own national record in his season debut with the weight throw. Henning's winning mark of 86'02.00" surpasses his best of 85'06.00" at last season's National Scholastic Indoor Track & Field Championships. The mark also surpasses Leif Arrhenius's (Mountain View, Orem, UT) senior class record of 82'10.00" set in 2004. Henning also broke 60 feet in the shot put.
The girl's competition was won by freshman Melissa Kurzdorfer (Lancaster, NY) with a personal best throw of 48'00.00". Kurzdorfer outdistanced her competition by nearly six feet en route to her win.
