The 13th annual Washington State Hammer Championships took place on Sunday at Eastern Washington University. The boy's competition couldn't have been closer with Andrew Miller (Capital, Olympia, WA) edging Brock Eager (Tahoma, Covington, WA) by just four inches. Miller added his title to the class 2A shot put title he won earlier in the weekend. He also placed second in the discus. Eager was just one foot under his personal best and will be the favorite to fin next year as both Miller and third-place finished Damon Unland (Ferris, Spokane, WA) are graduating. Unland, who was also the state class 4A champion in the discus and runner-up in the shot put, had a personal best in the competition. The girl's competition was won by eastern Washington's Katie Wardsworth (Central Valley, Spokane, WA) over Hannah Frost (Mary Knight, Elma, WA). Siniva Areta (Ferris, Spokane, WA) took third. Both Frost and Areta also threw personal bests at the competition.
