Track and Field News magazine named its 2009 High School All-Americans recently. On the boys side, Conor McCullough (Chaminade, West Hills, CA), Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley, Slate Hill, NY) and Justin Welch (Eastwood, Pemberville, OH) were given the honor. The three also produced the top marks of the year. McCullough accumulated honors as U.S. Junior Champion to cap his undefeated season. Faldermeyer also won Nike Outdoor Nationals. McCullough also placed sixth in the High School Boys Athlete of the Year and had the top spot in the hammer throw for the second straight year.
On the girl's side, last year's number one, Lauren Chambers (Kell, Marietta, GA) slid down to number two despite being the second girl to ever break the 200 foot barrier. Casey Kraychir (Twentynine Palms, CA) took the top spot by virtue of her head-to-head win over Chambers at the U.S. Junior Championships. Patrice Gates (Villa Rica, GA) also was named an All-American.
