Track and Field News Announces All-Americans

Renowned publication Track and Field News recently announced their 2012 high school all-americans. In the boy's hammer junior Rudy Winkler (Averill Park, NY). Winkler, who recently threw the second best high school mark of all time and a New York state record of 258'6", was undefeated against high school competition and had wins at the US Junior Nationals and made the finals at the World Junior Championships. Winkler also was ranked tenth among athletes from every event in their high school athlete of the year voting. Behind him were senior Joe Velez (Classical, Providence, RI) and junior Charles Ionata (Barrington, RI). Velez and Ionata were respectively first and second place at New Balance Nationals. Velez will be competing for Ohio State University in 2012.

National leader and New Balance Nationals champion Avana Story (Woodward, College Park, RI) took home the top rank for the girls. Girls from the Throw1Deep club in Georgia have taken home the top rank in the Track and Field News All-American list for six of the past eight seasons. Ashley Weber (Buena, Sierra Vista, AZ) and sophomore Sidney Wilder (Cameron, WI) represented some non-traditional high school hammer states by ranking second and third.
