Rudy Winkler places 9th at World Youth ChampionshipsPublished by
Sophomore Rudy Winkler (Averill Park, NY) added another highlight to his great 2011 season with a ninth place finish at the IAAF World Youth Championships. The competition, which is held every other year, put together the top athletes in the world born in 1994 or later. The boys throw an international weight 5-kilogram (11 pound) hammer. This year's meet in Lille, France was dominated by Bence Pasztor of Hungary, who threw a meet record of 82.60m. All four of Pasztor's legal throws were more than 82 meters. Ozkan Baltaci took second place with a personal best of 78.63m and Serhiy Reheda placed third. Winkler's best throw was 68.14m was well below his personal best of more than 74 meters, but still good enough to make the finals and place ninth against the best in the world.
