Sunday’s Washington State High School Hammer Championship held at Spokane Falls Community College saw forty-seven of the states best hammer throwers from 21 different schools from around the state. State leader Jon Lawson, senior from Prairie High School, won his third straight state title with a throw of 202’9” while sophomore Damon Unland of Ferris placed 3rd with a throw of 165’7”. Central Valley High School’s Senior Kevin Stanley placed 4th with a throw of 165’0”.

On the girl’s side senior and state leader Sophie Hallam-Eames from Nathan Hale threw 142’7” to improve her state best and secure the state championship. The eastside of the state showed well with four places of the top eight including Mead’s Michaelyn Mills who placed 3rd with 125’9”, Central Valley High School’s Dakota Kliamovich 4th at 122’5, Central Valley sophomore Katie Wardsworth was 5th with a throw of 121’11”, and University High School’s Emily Flynn placed 8th throwing 117’11”.
