Junior Conor McCullough (Chaminade, West Hills, CA) came in third in the voting for Track and Field News' High School Athlete of the Year. McCullough had a stellar seasons where he not only set the national record, but also placed second at the IAAF World Junior Championships as one of the youngest competitors. Former high school thrower Walter Henning (2006, 2007) and Jacob Freeman (1999) have been the only hammer throwers to win this award.

Track and Field News named three boys and three girls to their 2008 High School All-American Team. The three boys were McCullough, senior Trent Kraychir (Twentynine Palms, CA), and junior Mike Gama (Bishop Hendricken, Warwick, RI). On the girl's side, junior Lauren Chambers (Kell, Marietta, GA), senior Allison Horner (Lovett, Atlanta, GA) and senior Victoria Flowers (Classical, Providence, RI) were all honored. Click here for a complete list of all athletes honored in each event.

Finally, in September, Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley High School, Slate Hill, NY) threw two new personal bests at the 7th Annual Delaware Fall Throwers Classic hosted by the University of Deleware. Currently a junior, Faldermeyer improved his hammer best to 222'06" and his weight throw best to 70'02.25".
