Winkler improves best at Hammerama 2011

Rudy Winkler (Averill Park, NY) easily won the high school competition at the 2011 Hammerama, just after returning from his ninth place finish at the World Youth Championships. Winkler's best throw of 224'4" added ten feet to his personal best and will move him up to number three on the national performance list. He also improved his best with the international junior weight of 6-kilograms (13.2-pounds) to 218'1". He will throw that implement in international competitions next year when he moves up an age division. The junior competition was won by UCLA freshman Alec Faldermeyer who will represent the US at the Pan Am Junior Championships next week. The girl's competition was won by Robyn McFetters with a throw of 168'5".
