Conor McCullough (Chaminade, West Hills, CA) opened the season with a near personal best at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, CA over the weekend. While he did not break his own national record, he did set a new senior class record, breaking Walter Henning's senior class record of 255'11" from 2007. He was also very consistent in the competition.
Junior Alec Faldermeyer (Minisink Valley, Slate Hill, NY) had a big improvement with the international 5-kilogram hammer over the weekend. Faldermeyer threwe a new best of 240'11". The 5-kilogram hammer is the international implement used for athletes under 18. Faldermeyer is expected to compete at the 2009 IAAF World Youth Championships in Südtirol, Italy from July 8-12.
On the girl's list, sophomore Katie Kraychir (Twentynine Palms, CA) improved nearly 10 feet to 171'05". Maddy Midles (Camas, WA) also improved to move into the top five.
