This season has seen the rise of several young throwers. Although
the season is only halfway done several underclassman have already made
their mark. Three sophomore men are over the 64' mark. Freshman Wes
Wright (Villa Rica, GA) has set a new unofficial national class record
and two other freshman are within two feet of the old official mark. On
the girls's side both Adrianna Lugo (Alta Loma, Havienda Heights, CA)
and Allison Horner (Locett, Marietta, GA) have already set new
unofficial national freshman class records.
However, that is not all. The middle school kids have entered the
action this year with several athletes on the national performance
lists. On the girl's side both 8th grader Lauren Chambers of Georgia
and 7th grader Casey Kraychir of California have thrown marks that
surpass the nationa freshman record. Another 7th grader, Patrice Gates
of Georiga, is within a few inches of that record. Katie Kraychir,
younger sister of Casey, has become the first 6th grader (to my
knowledge) to appear on the list with a throw of over 35'.
